A cross between Bob the Builder and Paul Bunyan, Mike Slattery is a larger-than-life roofer who will passionately hop over any hurdle to fix your roof and keep you dry.
“People call me 'Roofer Mike' so it was a natural for a company name,” said Slattery, who moved to South Florida in 1979 from Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Slattery said that a roof is your first line of defense against South Florida's harsh weather that include hurricanes, pounding rain and a scorching sun.
“All roofs will require some repairs and maintenance,” said Slattery, a certified roofing contractor, who can expertly install and maintain metal, shingle, concrete and clay tile, and various flat roofs.
In some cases, you may be able to “hurricane proof” your roof by painting your roof with a high-tech, bright white elastomeric coating. According to one manufacturer, there are homes whose roofs sustained winds in excess of 175 M.P.H. during Hurricane Andrew with no damage.
Down below, cooler temperatures inside the house will save you a bundle on utility bills.
“From the estimate, through the completion of the job, Roofer Mike kept every appointment,” wrote Kathryn Serrano, of West Kendall, in an online testimonial. “He worked with my tenants schedules and even worked with the homeowners association.”
Best of all, Serrano added: “When the job was finished, they made sure the entire area was clean and orderly.”
Locally, he is a symbol of roofing might, well known for his old-school work ethic and ability to resolve problems.
“Mike has always been reliable, done a good job, as promised, and his prices are reasonable,” said Sydney Garton, of Miami Springs. “I will continue to use him for my roof problems and repairs.”
Most of Slattery’s clients come from word-of-mouth referrals and include well-known businesses like the Moose Lodge and law offices of Francis Holden, in Hialeah, the Elks Club on Sunset Drive, and Woody’s West End Tavern and Bryson’s, in Miami Springs.
A true craftsman, Slattery shares photos and commentary of work he does throughout the county for all to see on social media sites that include Facebook, Google +, LinkedIn and others. You will even find him on Angie's List, the word-of-mouth network that helps neighbors find the best service companies in their areas.
An avid blogger, Slattery recently added a "Roofer Mike stories" blog on his website where he writes about his current projects while engaging with customers and other roofers.
Slattery thinks all homeowners should take a top-down approach when fixing up a home starting with their roofs.
“Before making improvements to a home’s interior, be sure the roof is reliable,” said Slattery.
For a free roof inspection or for more information about how to extend the life of your roof, Slattery invites residents to call him at 305-519-7879.
The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining, according to former President John F. Kennedy.
Just remember that the hurricane season starts on May 1, so don't delay.
