A bicyclist suffered cuts and bruises after being struck by a driver in Miami Springs.
Police say the accident happened about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday when 20-year-old Katherine M. Rayo, of Miami Springs, tried to drive around cars that were stopped for a train.
The bicyclist, Andres Torres, 20, of Miami Springs, was hit head on and thrown into the windshield on impact, the police report shows.
Torres, who wore a helmet, said Friday that he was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
Rayo had five passengers in her Toyota Corolla at the time of the crash: all between 15 and 17..
However, her “E-Learner” license requires that she always drive “with a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old and occupies the front seat” until her license expires, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Police cited Rayo for improper passing and driving with a suspended license for failing to pay a 2008 traffic citation.
